    "Reefers Grow Their Own" ™
Self Help - Answers to Common Reefing Questions & Problems

Aiptasia Anemones (also known as Glass Anemones):
Click Aiptasia pictures to see a larger version.

A very BAD critter to have in ANY saltwater tank.  They have a super powerful sting that can & will kill corals & even fish!  They can breed & multiply like rabbits & can quickly overtake a tank.  Depending on the light over their tank Aiptasia can look dark brown to almost clear in color.  They can also extend & look long or just tentacles sticking out from a hole in a rock.

Aiptasia can also be found hanging onto the tank glass as well as in your sand.  There is misinformation out there stating that Peppermint Shrimp will eat Aiptasia.  They rarely touch it if they have other foods available.  99% of reefers have fish in their tanks.  Those fish are fed & subsequently the Peppermints are fed as well.  BUT I recently found that a beautiful & community quiet fish that will eat Aiptasia like they were desert!
The Lemonpeel Pygmy Angel!
Once I realized what these fish were doing I immediately started recommending that customers try them & I'm now getting awesome customer testimonials as to how well they work!  Click here to read the "Customer Testimonials".  The Lemonpeel Angel is a Pygmy (small species) that is reef safe...even with clams!  Be warned though...I have yet to be able to successfully have 2 long bodied angels in the same tank (up to a 220g) so if you already have a LB Angel like a Coral Beauty, BiColor etc. you might have to remove them.  If you have a short bodied angel like a Flame then you should be just fine putting the Lemonpeel in.

Lastly, I have a new product, Red Sea Aiptasia-X which when applied directly to Aiptasia kills them instantly!  I've tested this product in-house in both regular reef & seahorse environments with no ill effect.

Whatever method you choose to get rid of your Aiptasia, don't wait until your tank is full of them & killing everything in sight!  Get your remedy today!
