Clownfish & Anemones
Clownfish do NOT need an anemone but anemones do
better with Clownfish present. There are many
anemone species offered in the trade but
few are suitable as most will not survive in the
average hobbyist's tank. Many will wander
constantly, sting neighboring corals, some will eat your
beloved fish & most need extreme lighting
and other parameters not easily met in our glass
boxes. See
Anemone Choices
for more info.
Believe it or not
anemones almost don't have a life span, living
hundreds of years & more in the wild yet for most,
only survive a matter of months in our tanks!!!
AquaCorals only sells the Bubble Tip Anemones (BTA -
quadracolor). These are collected from deeper
waters & don't need as intense lighting. They
are less prone to wandering around your tank (less
chance of getting sucked into a powerhead!), won't
harm tankmates and are overall very hardy.
Almost EVERY clownfish will bond to it. The
Ocellaris or Percula Clown are the only
clowns I'm aware of that might not immediately take
to a BTA....yet we know they will in time! In fact, here at
AquaCorals you can see a mated pair of Ocellaris in
my 220g tank - pictured
above here & on the home page of
this web site!
PLEASE resist
the urge to buy white anemones as for most this is
an indication of ill health. Other anemones such as
the carpets should also be avoided due to their
ability to easily capture & eat your beloved fish
(not a matter of IF but WHEN!!
The Bubble Tip Anemone is the best choice, comes in
different colors, dark green, mint green, &
combinations of the two. They also come in Rose Red
too!
AquaCorals has a great selection of BTA's in stock!
